"Since the affected devices can overheat and pose a safety risk, if you own a Galaxy Note7, it is extremely important to stop using your device, power it down and immediately exchange it using our U.S. Note7 Exchange Program", the vendor said.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said on Friday it would resume selling new Galaxy Note 7 smartphones to South Korean customers from Sept. 28, as it rushes to complete the costly recall and salvage second-half sales for the device.

Based on videos and photos of the damage that the fires can cause, he urged consumers to "take advantage of the recall right away, as we've seen these phones can present a fire hazard".

However, following reports of 35 explosions due to the phone's faulty battery, sales of the phone was suspended on September 2 and recalling started in the US. The CPSC says it has received 92 reports of batteries overheating, that resulted in 26 reported burns. Soon afterwards, it announced a voluntary recall, but was quickly criticized for failing to collaborate with authorities on a formal recall process to ensure that all of the handsets were returned and replaced without delay. AT&T customers with the original Note 7 will receive replacement devices that have been tested by Samsung and approved by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The Federal Aviation Administration has officially banned passengers from using their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones while on planes.

According to Samsung, the new battery indicator will be tinted green instead of the regular white tint to differentiate the new units from the older ones. Samsung expects replacement Note 7s to be available by Wednesday.

The manufacturer intends to have replacement phones ready for customers by mid-week. They encouraged owners to visit Samsung's website for information on how to swap out a recalled phone. Major U.S carriers and retailers are working with the company and issuing refunds or replacements for the phones.

"When I charge it", he said, "it gets rather hot in the back".

"Because I don't want this Galaxy Note7 to blow up in my hand or, you know, in my house or in my car", he said.
