Despite being outshone by French forward Antonie Griezmann, Gary Lineker believes that Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win a trophy at an international level. Messi failed at the last hurdle in the last World Cup and two Copa America finals respectively.

Ahead of tomorrow night's final, Lineker said: "You can't pick out the England players for being overly pampered because it doesn't vary, it is exactly the same in every other country".

The nation that invented football were defeated by the smallest country to ever qualify for a major championships, and Lineker's take on the shocking, hilarious and humiliating England defeat pretty much summed up the scale of the result.

Lineker, 55, also went on to say that there were no shortages of passion from the England players, but they ultimately fell short due to a lack of experience, or a notable leadership figure. "He is a phenomenal goalscorer and his record is staggering".

"He's been a breath of fresh air". "What you have to do is keep a close eye on him all the time, stay close to him and make sure you don't allow him too much space".

He said: "I have spoken to the FA, they are sounding out a few people's opinions and I was more than happy to try and help and give mine".

"He's diminutive, with that angel-like face".

However the greatness in a player is one who carries a team from the bottom to become a contender for the a trophy.

He added: "I think we all worry about it. I came out for Remain". "He made it the hard way and he deserves to be where he is". "You cant carry on whining you just have to deal with it I suppose".

Gary Lineker's brilliant take on England losing to Iceland was the most re-tweeted tweet of Euro 2016.

"Antoine Griezmann will unquestionably be the player of the tournament, unless Ronaldo scores a hat-trick in the final", he added. But I have managed to get to the gym quite a lot.
